Condition Monitoring of Straddle Carrier - Prospects of using Ethernet-based automation solutions for building individual and mobile monitoring systems

Abstract

Within the scope of a maintenance project at the port of Bremerhaven, a technical system was developed which enables the collection and reliable evaluation of data from sensors on crucial components. The so called equipment monitoring or condition monitoring was built individually based on the specific requirements of a straddle carrier. The objective was to change over from a fixed cyclic maintenance strategy to a condition-based maintenance strategy. This conference contribution illustrates prospects how to use mobile modularized monitoring systems based on EtherCAT components to build condition monitoring systems highly aligned with the specific needs.
