EtherCAT in Test Systems – An Experience Report

Abstract

Vector uses EtherCAT in its modular test system VT System since 2006. EtherCAT connects the measurement and stimulation modules with the central test execution software running on a PC or a PC-based real-time platform. This connection is fast, reliable, and easy to handle. No additional hardware interface is needed on the host PC. In fact, it is not necessary for the user to know something about the network technology or EtherCAT. Even the VT System modules in the test racks are automatically identified and configured.
