  • How to begin an EtherCAT development – some key points
As straight-forward the functional principle of EtherCAT is, the many implementation options, communication devices (ASICS, SoCs, and more), documentation, and developer events are available. This slide set shows key decisions and development steps, and in which order those may be tackled: It includes basic EtherCAT theory training, parameter selection to choose an EtherCAT Slave Controller, possible EtherCAT Slave software stacks, organizing the parameter and process data, in-house testing, available test tools, official testing at an EtherCAT Test Center, and more developer events.
  • Navigate EtherCAT information
There are plenty of EtherCAT documents, specifications, and web page information available. In this slide set we show which information is available. How to read the EtherCAT specification ETG.1000/ IEC.61185, how to use ETG.2000 EtherCAT Slave Information, how to make use of the EtherCAT Knowledge Base, practical references to design a CoE object dictionary, which valuable and popular events are offered, and how to make contact with the ETG EtherCAT experts world-wide.
  • Implementation aspects for FSoE slave/master devices and drives (DS402 + FSoE), diagnosis and conformance testing
In this slide set the implementation of the FSoE protocol in vendor-specific slave/master devices are discussed and shown. For an FSoE implementation, various aspects of the technology are discussed in more detail. The flexible device architecture of the hardware and software are the basis for the individual design of a device. Detailed information in the ESI enables generic FSoE configuration tools. The diagnosis of FSoE frames in the EtherCAT network e.g., with the help of Wireshark™ are discussed. The use of the FSoE Conformance Test Tool for the FSoE slave/master is highly recommended during development and is mandatory for the device release, and hence, will also be addressed during those sessions. Also, learn about the standards for safety drive technology. We are explaining the safety drive profile and FSoE connection for drives.
  • ESI best practice – a closer view on the ESI file and selected parts of the EtherCAT slave device description
The ESI is the XML-based device description of EtherCAT slave devices. It contains descriptions of the features and properties of the device, from process data configuration to the physical ports of the device. This slide set explains selected topics of the ESI in detail and shows examples of how to make correct use of the related elements and attributes.
  • Using Modules/Slots in ESI and online CoE object dictionary
The ESI elements Modules and Slots allow to generate a flexible EtherCAT slave description, e.g., for modular servo drives and gateways. This slide set shows how to make correct use of the ESI elements and which online CoE objects are used for Modules/Slots functionality.
  • Conformance Test Tool (CTT) – Basic features and how to use it for EtherCAT slave development
This slide set aims to present the basics around the EtherCAT Conformance Test Tool (CTT) and how to use it for EtherCAT slave development. This presentation covers the many helpful functionalities and plug-ins of the tool, EtherCAT protocol testing as well as long-term testing of different EtherCAT slave configurations, error detection mechanisms, and analysis of the test results.
  • Conformance Test Tool (CTT) – Advanced usage and remote interface
This slide set shows advanced CTT configuration and testing of complex EtherCAT slave devices. It also explain how automated testing via the CTT remote control interface can be done. The scripting via PowerShell™ allows to start the CTT remotely, load different configurations, execute tests, and save results for internal test documentations.
  • EtherCAT Diagnosis: Hardware
The slides describe standard diagnostic functionalities enabling to detect and locate hardware issues on EtherCAT network infrastructures.
  • EtherCAT Diagnosis: Software
The slides describe standard diagnostic functionalities enabling to detect and locate software issues on EtherCAT network infrastructures.
  • EtherCAT Master & Configuration Tools – Typical issues and how to avoid them
The slide set includes several aspects concerning the implementation of an EtherCAT master and of the corresponding configuration tool functionality, which – also according to the ETG-support experience – are considered complex and/or limit the successful operation or utilization by end users. A general introduction to the EtherCAT Master Classes, as well as hints concerning specific implementation aspects like the handling of the EtherCAT State Machine, the correct parametrization of the process data and the monitoring of the mailbox communication, the initialization of the Distributed Clocks and the integration of diagnostic functionalities are provided.
