Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was founded in 1909 and is one of the oldest research institutes in India. IISc is recognised both nationally and internationally for its contribution to fundamental and applied research in science and technology. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research (ICER) was founded in 2012 to address the research challenges in a interdisciplinary with the objective to develop affordable and efficient energy systems. ICER has MoUs with leading Indian and international institutions engaged in energy research. Some major projects include the “Solar Energy Research Institute for India and United States (SERIIUS)” under the US-India Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC) programme and the National Centre for Clean Coal Research and Development (NCCCRD).

Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM),

Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM) is among the most research and technology intensive design and manufacturing schools in India, steeped in the ambience of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. CPDM is among very few schools in India that train students in developing and making systemically-complex, technologically-intensive, and socially-impactful solutions that are functional, aesthetic, usable and sustainable. CPDM pursues excellence in teaching, research and industry interaction in the areas of design and manufacturing. It runs two-year M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering, two-years M.Tech. in Smart Manufacturing and five-years Ph.D. programme in both the fronts.
