MITC builds on collaboration between the manufacturing industry and academia (mainly Mälardalen University). Results are created where different competences, capabilities and technologies meet, and since 2011 MITC has been generating results through building needs-driven co-operation for SMEs development, training, research and technical projects together with industrial partners. MITC is an inclusive environment where people and technology meet to research and implement new knowledge, processes and innovations. It has the capability to create project groups with competence drawn from industry, academia and institutes that provide learning and results for all participating parties. MITC is operated by industry in Mälardalen and Mälardalen University and is head-quartered in Eskilstuna. This is where the Tech Centre is located, a physical location for future competence, technology, innovation and development.

The test and demo environment Produktionstekniskt Centrum, abbreviated to PTC, was launched in 2008 as an initiative between Innovatum Science Park, University West, the former Volvo Aero and SAAB to increase innovation capacity, develop production technology solutions and give SMEs access to advanced equipment. Today, the arena is run by the main parties Innovatum Science Park, University West, GKN Aerospace, IUC West and Swerim, and another ten companies are active parties.
