ETG.1020 EtherCAT Protocol Enhancements – Clause: Dynamic Process Data Channel (DPC)

The ETG.1020 EtherCAT Protocol Enhancements - clause Dynamic Process Data Channel (DPC) specifies a new EtherCAT functionality. The DPC is a process data channel which can be opened and closed dynamically (without the need of an ESM state transition) to transfer cyclic data. Possible use cases for the DPC are frequency measurement of a servo drive and short-term collection of application-specific diagnostic data. The advantages compared to the standard process data channel are an efficient usage of communication bandwidth and less processing required on MainDevice side and SubDevice side.

The TC Meeting has confirmed this new feature and the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) has released the draft V0.9.0 available for download her for a 6 week ETG review. Review period ends April 14, 2023. Please download the document here and use the included comment sheet for any comments.
