EtherCAT in the Semiconductor Industry

Abstract

EtherCAT provides new possibilities for process control by opening some old fashioned “black boxes”. This is supported by the various semiconductor specific device profiles which have been established by the ETG Semiconductor Working Group. We also look at the adoption rate within the semiconductor industry.

Dr. Guido Beckmann

Dr. Guido Beckmann studied Electronic Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Industrial communication technologies have always been one of his peculiar interest. Today he is part of the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) team and promotes and supports the worldwide usage of EtherCAT in all kind of applications.
While working for a leading drive manufacturer he became project manager for the development of drive-integrated safety functions and an expert for functional safety. Within ETG he is now responsible for the support of Safety over EtherCAT, which combines both topics – communication and safety.
