Unmodified Ethernet for Industrial Automation?

Abstract Of course you use Ethernet on a daily basis – but it’s so well hidden behind your browser that you may have never looked at the technology behind it, at least if you are in automation and not in IT. This brief presentation shows you how Ethernet and the Internet works, and puts you in the position to assess the benefits as well as the limitations of using these technologies in Automation.

Dr. Guido Beckmann, Chairman Technical Committee, EtherCAT Technology Group

Guido Beckmann Guido Beckmann studied Electronic Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. His particular interest has always been the industrial communication technology. While working for a leading drive manufacturer he was project manager for the development of drive-integrated safety functions and became an expert for functional safety. Today he is part of the team in the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) and as the chairman of the Technical Committee he promotes and supports the worldwide usage of EtherCAT in all kind of applications.
